Film industry mourners were left in deep shock on Friday (July 26), following the passing of Menaka Irani, mother of choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan. She was 79. After their father Kamran Khan passed due to alcoholism, Farah and Sajid Khan were raised solely by Menaka Irani until recently when Farah opened up about financial struggles they endured as children while being raised by her. Recently she spoke out about what they went through while raising them as adults with no outside help whatsoever from family.

Farah Khan shared an emotional monochrome photo of herself holding onto her mother?s hand while smiling warmly for the camera? her post received support and love from members of Bollywood including Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, MC Stan, Zareen Khan among many others who extended condolences and expressed their respect.
Farah spoke to NDTV about how her mother has influenced both herself and her brother. As a choreographer-turned-director, Farah credits her mother with teaching them the value of honesty, never forgetting their roots, and being true to herself and always honoring one’s roots. Farah stated that her mother is her biggest source of motivation and hopes one day to make her proud.

During her interview, she spoke about making her directorial debut with 2004 blockbuster Main Hoon Na and how it changed her life. She remembered how supportive her mother had been of her endeavor despite not having prior experience in this field.
Menaka Irani was one of three sister actors Daisy Irani and Honey Irani and enjoyed a brief acting career herself, appearing alongside them in 1963 film Bachpan as themselves. Additionally, Menaka Irani was close with Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar whom both considered her an aunt.
Menaka Irani was an iconic figure in Bollywood and her passing has left an enormous hole among family, friends and fans. She will be sorely missed by all. Menaka Irani leaves behind her husband, two children and grandchildren to cherish her memory.
